Suspend drawing of the grid

Is there a way of suspending the drawing of the grid until all updates have been done?
I have a grid that gets drawn dynamically when a user clicks on a tab and I can see it being drawn and filled in with data and the scroll bar resizing as it does this.  Is there a way of adding rows and columns and updating cell data without the results being shown immediately?  Something like lock(true) at the start of the updates and then lock(false) at the end.

Have you tried grid.SuspendLayout() and grid.ResumeLayout()?
